Deviance is such a weird concept.
First of all, deviance is defined as departing from accepted social behavior.
Everybody is a deviant, there is no way that somebody could show no deviance whatsoever.
Not being a deviant would show deviance.
When I first learned about deviance, I instantly thought about two topics.
Boys normally have short hair, it has been that way for a long time now. But recently we have famous people like Justin Bieber and Harry Styles (who probably weren't the first people) who have changed that idea that boys should have short hair. Since their popularity, more men have been deciding to have a longer hairstyle, myself included.
The second topic that came to my mind is very popular among high school kids.
High school kids love the extravagant "promposal" where the boys ask the girls to prom in public places. I have done this myself. It started off as being cool to ask in front of a large group of people, and it has become very popular to do it.
So my BIG question is... Is it considered deviance if it has become such a popular way of life in our society??

Gender Roles
A guy does something stupid, the woman slaps him and it's funny.
A girl does something stupid, the guy slaps her and he's abusive and crazy.
The video was called "No more slapping" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyJXAallsyY
for those interested.
The goal of the video was to bring to light how inappropriate it is to slap people.
Nobody enjoys to be slapped, no matter what gender and the younger kids who are more impressionable imitate this behavior that they see in movies and shows. This also relates to our gender roles because men aren't allowed to hit women yet women are seen slapping men for comedic effect in movies.

Science and Sociology
Hey guys! How's it goin, it's Victor E. coming at ya, hope you guys aren't getting tired of me!
This Saturday I have a Science Olympiad tournament and in the simplest terms, it's a really big science fair for high schoolers. I'll be participating against other schools for first place in events such as, "it's about time" where I build a non-mechanical timing device, and "chemistry lab" where I experiment and analyze with various compounds.
I used to think I was weird (thanks self-concept) for appreciating learning random things about science, but it makes me SO happy to see hundreds of other kids doing the same exact things!

This made me think about sociology... I began to think, "how much different are we from those who surround us?". Probably not THAT much different, many of us are high school students who spend hours on our phones, checking Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. We stay up to date with social media and Kayne West's newest line of fashion. So my question is...
Why do we care so much about other peoples' opinions when most of us act the same??

The 5k to friends
"Cross country is such a fun sport!" - said no one ever.
Cross country is without a doubt one of the most physically intensive sports in high school. You have got to be crazy to join a sport like that! However, I never said that I wasn't a little crazy. Cross country requires you to have a positive mindset and determination, two incredibly strong traits for a runner. I encourage people who have the will to run, to join cross country. I strongly recommend this because you can make some great friends by doing this. The friends you make will be positive, hard workers and those types of friends go a long way. It's an incredibly difficult sport, but the hard work is so worth it. So I'll leave you with this, don't take the easy way out to make like-minded friends.
Just like Robert Frost said "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference".
